What do I want to do after graduation?
Wow that is a gigantic question… I’m graduating next semester (9 months from now), so you think I’d already have a plan? Haha, decision making is not really my strong suit. But I can still talk about some thoughts least.
I've wanted to be a software engineer since the beginning of college. One reason is I enjoy logic, reasoning, thanks to the really awesome physics teacher I had in high school. He helped us make a lot of sense out of our everyday lives using physics, and I enjoyed it so much. I also like to build new things. It makes me feel productive, plus I acquire new skills (and good friends) along the way. Finally, the software industry is thriving right now, or at least before the robots take over.
My favorite memories with my family is probably when my mom and dad used to take me to the park everyday when I was little. We’d roller skate or dance on that ring in the middle of the park. They made sure I understand the importance of outdoor activities even in a city like Beijing where all the parks are pretty much man made… Now I love going on hikes in different parks in the US. So all this is to say, after I graduate I want to go on more hikes before I officially sit down at my office (if I have one).
The seminar I am taking right now is titled “That’s me in the corner”. It talks about all sorts of social issues ranging from the exploitation of migrant workers for Sochi Olympics to Indian child beggars, and most importantly the PEOPLE who suffer from these problems. It really opened my eyes to a more complicated world and reminded me of the privileges and I have. Like my instructor always say with some bad luck you could be that person in the corner. This is not really an after graduation goal, but I would like to travel to different places and meet new people when I have the chance. Learn more about culture, history, and how things come to be the way they are today. My sisters in the sorority have helped me understand how to be active and stand up for what I think is right. I want to see the world I live in with my own eyes, then see if I can tell the bad from the good.
Finally, by the time I graduate I’d probably be too old to watch any of my favorite animes, so I will very likely subconsciously try to avoid watching them just so that they stay perfect in my memories.
Those are some thoughts about post graduation.
